June 28, 2010

It has been awhile, but I decided it would be better to wait until I had something new to say. Today was another one of those steps in the right direction. As we were walking out the door Dave asked me for the car keys. This was the first time he has had any interest in driving. I guess he is getting ready to start back to work on July 6. He will be going to physical therapy at 8 a.m., and then on to work. I hope he decides to work only until noon for a couple of weeks, but I am not quite certain he cares what I think! He is bored and ready to get back to his customers. Now if I can just get him to start thinking about getting another car. I hope he doesn't think he is going to get mine. Of course, I will give it to him if he wants to give me the new one. For some reason I think he deserves the new one, don't you!

Dave and I have always been close, but these last few months made us even closer. As happy as I am that he is going back to work and getting back to normal, I am really going to miss him. When the time arrives I feel pretty sure we are going to make a great retired couple!

We arrived in Huntsville around 5:30pm on Saturday evening. Dave did an amazing job on the trip. It was a wee bit crowded with my mom and our dog, but we survived. We were all well enough to go see our grandson Parker on Sunday. It was a beautiful sight seeing Dave hold his grandson for the first time. It was very emotional for both of us.

Dave is doing his physical therapy every morning out on the patio. Every day he is getting more and more independent. He still plans on going back to work on July 5. I know he is mentally ready, but I know that he does not have the strength to work a full day. I'm sure he will start out slow, and it will not be long before he is back full time.

Dave is still improving. He tries to do something everyday whether it be unload the dishwasher (got to love that), walk to the end of the street, and on a crazy day, go to WalMart. We all know WalMart will make you wish you were in a hospital! However, we do have the best medicine anyone could have ever given him. Our little grandson Parker Kenneth came a couple of weeks early. He weighed 8 lbs. 14 oz., and yes I have to show you a picture. Mom, baby and even dad are doing wonderful. We are going to try to make the trip to Houston to see the little guy on Saturday. Dave and I are just so thankful he is here to hold his grandson.
